Mara Berendt Friedman has been a working artist for over two decades. Her richly colored, layered and stylized paintings focus upon and honor the Essence of the Sacred Feminine. Mara says:

The inner life and search for awakening, with its ever spiraling struggles and triumphs, is the fuel that feeds my creative fire.  Over and again, I repeat the process of diving deep within the well of Soul, swimming in its fertile depths and rising up with image pearls that express not only my personal path, but also the universal journey of being a Woman.

How do we as women connect to the power and innate wisdom of our Mother Earth and know Her power as our own?

How do we connect with the Beauty of our soul and share our unique gifts of expression with the world as a sacred act of healing both for ourselves and each other?


I am continually guided by the tender truth of this quote by Rumi, “Let the Beauty you love be what you do.”

Abundance and Mindfulness

What nourishes you?

What breaks your heart open?

What makes tears burst forth in a blaze of overwhelming gratitude?

Aren’t those tears delicious!  I love the way they have a life of their own, gathering momentum for just a moment and then ever so gently  flowing over and warming my cheeks.  I used to brush them away, almost with embarrassment, but now I cheerish their short sweetness.

It seems that, in the process of being mindful, we can be deeply nourished.  After all, there is such  abundance waiting for us at every turn.  It is a choice of attention.

During a recent filming for the Women’s Global Awakening, we asked women this question “What nourishes you?”.  What is the answer for you?  Singing, dancing, gardening, writing, being with friends, reading poetry, being alone?  Because we women have the tendency to give to others, to care for others, it is vitality important to also give and care for ourselves.  Without this, we do not have the very vitality we need in order to cultivate the deep feminine nature within us.  We could ask this question for our Mother Earth.  What nourishes her?  What does she need in order to have the vitality to cultivate her deep generous nature so that she can survive?  Ask your self the question:   What can nourish me in this moment?  It is not selfish.  It is not indulgent.  It is essential.

And what breaks your heart open -  allows you to sink in and touch that deep warm soulful part of you that can get covered up so easily in the midst of life.  There is so much everywhere all the time for all of us.  Today this famous poem was my gift:

Even in our sleep
pain which cannot forget
falls drop by drop upon the heart
until in our own despair
against our will
comes wisdom through the awful
grace of God

Speak Your Truth

For every woman we have named, there are a hundred who speak; for every hundred who speak, there are a thousand who know;

for every thousand who know, there are ten thousand who do not yet know because their truth lies still deeper than all the ones who speak and can be named.

And every one of us is needed now.To do whatever we can do: to be named, to speak, to know, to not know.

And everyone, the one who can be named, who can speak, who knows, and who does not yet know, is within each of us.

These powerfully moving words, written in The Feminine Face of God by Sherry Ruth Anderson and Patricia Hopkins, have been a tremendous inspiration to the vision that has borne Touchstones of the Sacred. Today these words are as relevant if not more so, because the need to re-awaken the Sacred Feminine in our culture is increasingly urgent.

Meet Miranda Macpherson

Miranda Macpherson is a spiritual teacher, counselor and author of the spiritual guidebook Boundless Love. She began her spiritual path at the age of thirteen after a powerful initial awakening. Miranda has been teaching internationally since 1995 and is known for her depth of presence, clarity, and refined capacity to guide people into direct experience of the sacred.

Miranda’s spiritual training began in her teen years and she has written and taught extensively on these areas of study internationally. In her twenties, Miranda completed seminary training in which she studied the world’s spiritual traditions, their distinctions and the universal thread than runs through them all. She was ordained an interfaith minister in 1995 in New York. A year later, she founded the ground breaking educational organization The Interfaith Seminary in London, where she was spiritual director for a decade.

In her thirties, Miranda was graced by a profound nondual awakening in the cave of Ramana Maharshi in India. This silent transmission of pure being beyond mind had a lasting impact on her awareness and changed the orientation of her life and teaching. She is currently launching The Feminine Wisdom School a new one-year program with Lama Palden and Sherry Anderson.

Miranda is based in the San Fransisco bay area, and is writing a book on embodied awakening. Meet Lama Palden Drolma

Lama Palden Drolma is the Resident Lama of Sukhasiddhi Foundation. In 1986 she became one of the first Western women to be authorized as a lama in the Vajrayana tradition and she has studied with many of the great Tibetan masters from all lineages.

Lama Palden’s teachings have translated Vajrayana Buddhist principles and practices in ways that make them accessible to Westerners and she has a deep interest in fostering psycho-spiritual awareness within daily life.
