10 Ways to Find Joy When You Think Life Sucks part 2

How can we NOT feel joyful when we are silly and dancing and not caring about how we look!  Whether it’s crazy dancing, roller skating, or flying a kite, getting out of our ‘normal’ way of doing things allows us to expand our minds and our bodies into an experience of presence, opening the door to joy and laughter.

I don’t know about you, but I’ve spent a lot of my life trying to be right and look right and God forbid, not make a fool of myself.  We moved around a lot when I was growing up and I can acutely remember the dense, heavy energy of self-consciousness as I walked into yet another classroom and was again the ‘new girl’.  Within a week, I’d figure out what I should be wearing and what I needed to do in order to fit in and not stand out any more than I had to.  That feeling of self-consciousness was like a prison wall wrapped tightly around some part of the expression of  my true essence.

Thank God for therapy, meditation and the passage of time.  Somehow the combination has provided the sense of freedom that comes with being truly able to be myself, to laugh at myself and to have my heart so filled with love that there is little room for self-consciousness.  There is a great saying that I’m sure you’ve heard:

Dance like no one is watching
Love like you’ll never be hurt
Sing like no one is listening.

Why not?  What is there to lose?  I just don’t think it’s possible for life to suck when we’re being silly, do you?
