Halla Ayla

Halla Ayla is an Iraqi born artist living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Born in Baghdad, Ayla lived between Iraq, Lebanon and Saudi Arabia for 22 years before moving to Europe. She did her undergraduate studies in Paris and her graduate studies in Geneva, Switzerland. She moved to the US in 1991 and opened the Oasis Art Gallery outside of Atlanta, in Georgia.

Ayla is a mixed media artist and designer with a focus in fine art photography. Her work is a poetic blend of east and west. Combining and layering photographs she takes on her journeys throughout the Arab world, with image transfers, encaustic, collage and painting, she creates images that are on the one hand realistic, and on the other, dreamy and ethereal. She is greatly influenced and inspired by her Islamic heritage. Its unique art, architecture and calligraphy, as well as the many facets of everyday life in the Middle East.

Since the tragic events of September 11, she has been moved to share her passion and appreciation for Arab and Islamic art and culture with America. Her desire to build cultural bridges between the US and the Arab world has led her to launch a 7 part series of exhibitions in the US, entitled The Arab World Unveiled. Each of the 7 exhibitions focuses on a specific country or region of the Arab world and presents it by way of art, photography, slide shows and educational talks. Thus far, she has presented 3 of the series: the first on Morocco was entitle: The Magic of Morocco, the second on Egypt was called: The Mysteries of Egypt, the third, focused on the Levant, mainly Lebanon, Syria and Jordan and was entitled: Everyday Enchantment. She is currently working on her fourth exhibition for Winter 2010, which will be on the Arab Gulf Region, mainly United Arab Emirates, Qatar and the Sultanate of Oman.

Her desire is to reveal the more enchanting aspects of the region, bringing a greater humanity and dignity to the Arabs, their cultural and historical legacy.

Ms. Ayla has shown her work both in solo and group exhibitions both in the US and internationally and can be found in public and private collections worldwide. Her work  has been featured on the covers of books, musical CDs, magazines as well as on the internet. She has appeared in numerous news and media publications both in the US and the UK, including ABC news as a fierce champion of Arab culture and people.

Her artwork is currently showing in the tallest building in the world – Burj Khalifa in Dubai.

All are Mixed Media prints and are available in limited edition prints on archival quality paper.  Shipping time from order approximately 10 days.
