7 Easy Ways to Develop Your Intuition

October 20, 2010 By: Janna Chin Category: Living with Intention, Mind Body Spirit

Intuition. Everyone knows that feeling in your gut that tells you something’s wrong. That voice in your heart that guides you in the right direction.

Intuition is knowledge we know cognitively without rational thought. In today’s society, intuition has been downplayed, secondary to intellect and logic. Often times, problems can’t be solved with mere intellect or rational thought alone. In a society that values scientific data and proof of effectiveness from everything to skin care to weight loss and everything else in between, we need to get in touch with ourselves and our own inner wisdom more than ever.

Intellect combined with intuition will guide us in the right direction every time. Our intuition is our most valuable personal guide to easily solving difficult problems, experiencing joy in life, becoming more efficient, making less mistakes, and enhancing our spiritual awareness.

Learning to harness one’s instincts and intuition helps individuals make better decisions in all areas of their lives, personal and professional. When people allow instinct and intuition to be part of their decision-making process, they experience less regret and feel less conflicted when they make important decisions. – Karol Ward, Author of Find Your Inner Voice: Using Instinct

7 Easy Ways to Develop Your Intuition & Listen to Your Gut Instincts with No More Regrets

Distinguish between intuition and mind chatter. With all the noise that goes on around us, our own wishful thinking, and past experiences that affect our objectivity, it’s important to separate the “Noise” from our inner, intuitive voice. To do this,

Use the following exercises to Strengthen Your Intuition…

1. Be open to the intelligence of your heart. Try not to downplay your instincts. Be carefully aware of how your body responds to people and new situations. Make mental notes. Exercise your openness with every new situation.

2. Interpret intuitive messages. If you’re uncertain about what to do for a particular situation, ask your intuition for clarity by using verbal dialogues such as,

“I think this is what you want me to do so I’m going to do it. If this isn’t right, block it. Give me a clear sign that this is not what I’m supposed to do.”

Verbal dialogues are great ways to get answers to solve every day problems and gain clarity about what you need to do to experience more joy and serenity in your life.

3. Use candles to fine tune your third eye chakra – the seat of intuition, insight, and creativity. Light a candle and stare directly into the wick for a few minutes a day- this will fine tune and strengthen your intuitive abilities.

4. Draw your feelings with colors that represent your emotions. Use colors that represent your feelings i.e., use red for anger, yellow for happy. After you’ve processed your feelings with art. Look at your artwork. Briefly ponder your emotions. Sit quietly and wait for your heart to speak. If nothing comes right away, be patient.

5. Intuitive messages can come to us in many different ways and at any time. Sometimes, a friend will tell us what we need to hear. We may hear something on the radio. Or we may unexpectedly have an “A-ha!” moment that tells us exactly what we need to do.

6. Move your body with mind-body exercises. Engaging in mind, body, spirit exercises like hatha yoga, tai-chi, or qigong really increases body awareness. You can use mind, body, spirit movements to become more introspective and aware of how your mind, body, and spirit are connected. By doing so, you will connect on a deeper level with your inner self.

7. Take a few deep breaths, meditate with prayer, and ask your intuition if there’s anything you need to know right now. Pick a time of day when you have 15-20 minutes of quiet. Use this time to sit still and relax and connect with the Lord in your heart- your personal inner guide. Doing this regularly will help you to hear and trust your inner voice when you need guidance the most. There is no greater source of strength than praying to God for guidance.

Practicing these tips will help you on your way to developing and trusting your intuition- being intuitive and spiritually centered is the foundation of confidence and self-esteem. All the guidance we need is already within us, all we have to do is listen.
